Ringed by the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area, Lake Dunmore supports a wide mix of warm- and cold-water fish, plus one of Vermont's most closely watched loon families.
Fish Species
The lake holds black crappie, brown bullhead, lake trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, landlocked Atlantic salmon, northern pike, panfish, rainbow smelt, rainbow trout, and yellow perch — enough variety that Dunmore is stocked and fished nearly year-round.
Birds & Wildlife
Dunmore is home to a resident pair of common loons and their chicks, watched over for more than a decade by local volunteer Mike Korkuc — known on the lake as the "Loon Ranger" — who patrols by pontoon boat to keep boat traffic clear of nesting birds. His work is part of a broader Vermont comeback story: the state's loons came off the endangered species list in 2005 and hit a record 109 breeding pairs in 2021.
