Lake Bomoseen's warm, weedy shallows and wooded shoreline support a lively mix of fish and birdlife — including two raptors that have made dramatic comebacks since the pesticide era.
Fish Species
The lake holds bass, panfish, bullhead, brown trout, yellow perch, smelt, and northern pike — plenty to keep the resident eagles fed, let alone the anglers.
Birds & Wildlife
Bald eagles, once wiped out locally by DDT, have re-established a nesting site on Neshobe Island in the center of the lake, where they feed on the trout, bass, and other fish that are plentiful in Bomoseen's waters. Ospreys are following a similar recovery arc, with occasional sightings reported in recent years and a nesting platform under consideration to give them a foothold, too.
